Today we’d like to introduce you to Gail Tyson.
Hi Gail, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My passion for interiors and decorating stems from my childhood. At an early age, I began to express my creativity through my gift for drawing and sketching. Over time, my passion for design + art led me to the studies Fashion Design and Merchandising at Georgia Southern University. During my studies there, I learned the importance of quality textiles and fabrics; and how much of an influence it plays in our everyday lives. Unbeknownst to me, this would be the propeller of my exploration into the world of Interior Design.
I was raised in Miami, FL but I have spent most of my adulthood in Atlanta, GA. The scenery of Miami is a jewel to behold; bold artwork, vibrant colors, lush greenery, and beautifully crafted furnishings. These elements are a reflection of both my personal and interior design style. In addition, Atlanta has given me a platform to freely express my creativity through Interior design because it has evolved into a global destination with the mission of celebrating diversity, innovation and creativity in design.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road to success has not always been easy. Starting my own business, managing work-life balance, and still keeping a 9-5 has been very challenging! I always say to myself, “I need a double “ !lol.
I’m constantly learning new techniques and ideas to grow both my business and creative process. Though I have built a respectable portfolio, I still consider myself a novice student of this business.
I had to learn through several trials the importance of managing time, selling my big ideas to clients, selecting the ideal client, identifying “red flags” projects, hiring the right people, fast work turnarounds, managing costs, and most importantly managing client expectations!
The is a competitive market, and the rules are ever-changing! One of the hardest parts of being a designer is introducing the latest trends while balancing a sense of timeless style.
It can be an overwhelming challenge, but I love all of the things that come along with it!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is when my mother came to surprise me at school on Halloween. I believe I was five years of age at the time. But I remember being outside on the playground with all the other kids, and all of sudden everyone starts screaming and running! I turned around to see what happened, and it was my mother walking toward me, but she was dressed like a witch with green face paint, a witch’s hat, and an all-black dress. I thought it was the funniest thing ever! She just recently passed, so I cherish that moment more than I have! She was my biggest supporter in helping me grow my interior design business.
